My way of Gymming

Everybody has a dream that he should have a muscular body and feel attractive. For this one does need to take a lot of efforts, be it in diet or in exercise. Some of you might be just very skinny, while some of you might be hoping to be like that. But it is not always the way how we feel it should be. The ones who are thin feel to get muscular and the ones which contradict them hope to burn more calories and develop a good physique. I have seen most of the people who exercise tremendously and yet they don’t get their muscles bulge out and also seen some of them who workout a little and can develop a great body. I would say that just by exercising your body till you exhaust will not make you muscular. There should be a perfect balance between exercise and diet.

Dieting here doesn’t mean eating less. It means eating the proper things at proper time. You can get the tips on this from net and hence I would not be writing about this here. I would be writing here about the way I do my exercise at home (if I am not going to the gym). When I was undergoing my engineering I would get loads of time for everything and hence had joint a gym and would do my exercise there. At some point after joining the gym I had developed a 4 pack abs with the 5th and the 6th on their way to appear. But then I had to stop my gym as I had to go to Mysore for my company training. From since that moment I never saw the packs of my abs on my stomach. It is only after a great amount of contraction of your stomach muscles that I was able to see them. Since then I developed this way of working out at home itself. I took this decision as I was knew that later I wouldn’t be getting time to make my dream come true about looking at least 10% similar to any of the body builder (Arnold / Hrithik).

As a software engineer you are always struggling for time for exercise. You can’t rely on the evening as you may never know if you have to wait for long in office for that day. Hence the best time for exercise is in the morning by getting up early i.e. at 5 am. Then you can think of doing your exercise. Hence I get up at 5 and start with a bit of warm-up and jogging on the spot. Also a few jumps would make your blood flow through your body which has been stiffened as you have slept for at least 6 hours (IT professionals get only this much amount of sleep). Following this I do SuryaNamaskar (even if the sun has not risen yet). Elder people say that 15-20 SuryaNamaskar a day are more than enough as your daily exercise. It will also help you develop the variety of abs packs (i.e. 2 packs, 4 packs, 6 packs) my personal experience is also the same and I completely agree to this point. Each and every group of muscles gets strengthened by this exercise and a bit of stretching is also done. I myself cannot extend above 10 per day. You can perform 1 SuryaNamaskar in 1 minute and hence for doing 10 you would require just 10 minutes from your so called busy schedule. Hence I feel that everyone can surely take out 10 minutes for exercise. Instead of chitchatting on the coffee table for 20 minutes you can save that time and use for exercise.

After I have done my warm-up I do 2 sets of pushups, dips (normal ones and bench dips too, for triceps) and sit-ups. If you just have 30 minutes for your exercise before you can catch your daily office bus, then this is the perfect set of exercise for you. Whenever I get up late i.e. at around 6 I stop at this point of my exercise. If you do this much for 1 month without any breaks then you too will feel the difference.

Then comes the actual workout part. A good gym charges at around 300rs per month for just weight gain. If you want to have treadmill then you should not worry about the charge, its always too high to think about it. Hence instead of investing this much amount monthly what we have done is done an initial investment of around 1000 and purchased our own equipments. This includes sets of dumbbells, rods, plates, spring (compressible and expandable), pushup bars (not bra’s), with all these equipments we (a group of 4 friends) have setup a small gym which we have kept in one of my friends house. Then while time of exercise we take the equipment to the terrace and do the workout there. By reading you might feel that these are a lot of equipments, but actually they are just enough to start off. As you continue for more than a month you feel that the weight of the instruments should be increased. But right now we don’t have that much money to invest in it. And as there is only a single rod then we always have to keep on adding and removing weights in order to have a proper workout. This takes a lot of time. If you desire to have a proper workout you should have a bench (not the IT company bench). Most of the exercise patterns are based on bench. However the cost of the bench is too high and hence we take the support of the divider between two terraces. This divider is just 1 foot high and hence has perfectly served our purpose of the bench.

We don’t have a separate room for keeping all the equipments and exercising there itself. In future we are planning to take a room on lease inside our society itself or else if other people are ready to join this gym we can officially ask the society members to give us a room and the others people would contribute for the same. This would help setup a gym for our society (our residential complex) and have its own independent gymnasium monitored and owned by us.

  1. Good! but my suggestion would be: keep a line of space in between paragraphs and try to divide them in smaller chunks so that the reading experience won't be boring... ;)
